PPP/Safety CommitteeWhat is the Private Police Patrol?
As part of the effort of the GPOA to increase the safety and security of our residents, the Safety Committee expanded its program by contracting with BRPD police to patrol the neighborhood. The formation of the Private Police Patrol (PPP) began in 2007 and has shown great success. The contract runs June 1 - May 31 and secures approximately 6-7 hours of patrol time, five-seven days per week. The responsibilities for these officers includes the ability to decrease response times when calls come from the neighborhood, neighborhood watch, vacation watch, traffic control and enforcement, and residential visits. Many of the officers are in unmarked cars and have been successful in apprehending wanted fugitives and suspects. An added benefit of the program has been more personalized follow-ups on investigations and quicker solutions to crimes in the area. This has been an unexpected benefit of developing this long term relationship with our officers, some of which have been part of the program since it inception. |
The safety committee was created out of the need to provide more information and security for the residents of Old Goodwood. As crime statistic and issues began to creep into the area, the committee committed to managing a system to insure a heighten police presence in the area, through contracts with off-duty police officers, creating the Private Police Patrol.
