Our History
​The developments that are rooted around the original Old Goodwood Plantation have a history going back to the 1930's when Goodwood Avenue was nothing more than a gravel road. We continue to strive to keep Old Goodwood a special place for resident of the area. 

History of Old Goodwood Neighborhood

The author of the following history,  William R. "Bill" D'Armond,  and his wife, the former Margaret Roberts, have lived in Goodwood Place since 1970.  Margaret lived in the neighborhood from birth until marriage, and attended Goodwood Elementary School from its opening in 1948.  Bill was born in Baton Rouge, graduated from Baton Rouge High School, LSU and the Harvard Law School, and was a founding partner of the law firm of Kean, Miller, Hawthorne, D'Armond, McCowan  and Jarman.

Extensive research was performed by  Mr.  D'Armond on the history of the land that our neighborhood is located.  Our sincere thanks go to him for his time, effort and permission given to publish his work.   Mr. D'Armond is truly a resident who cares for  where we live.  To read a most interesting history of Old Goodwood, please click here.
